Summit Summary:

A summit created to address the common disbeliefs about building a business as a female entrepreneur and educate them on how to properly run a business while navigating through the daily challenges as a mother raising a family. The niche was specifically mothers, ages 25 to 45, who have 1+ children. These individuals have a specific personality: Type A, driven, desires more out of life, social, extroverted, has passion and sets higher standards/expectations for themselves. I designed the summit to educate the subscriber on educational topics regarding the how-to’s of running a business, addressing the emotional/mental/physical challenges faced throughout that process, and dispel the common belief that running a business as mother raising her family was not sustainable or possible.

My Favorite email: I had so many emails that I loved! I really enjoyed creating of ways to connect to my audience and show my personality and heart behind the summit. I’d have to say my top favorite email was the pre-summit email #2 Day 3. It really captured the psychology and physical emotions of what a mother goes through when looking from an outside perspective into what they perceive to be the idealistic life of a successful mother running a business. The email addresses the common misconception of perfectionism and welcomes the subscriber into the real life of a female entrepreneur. The point of the email is to address the reader’s limiting beliefs about themselves and bring them hope, confidence and feeling of purpose….get them to understand that nothing is ever what it seems, but that they too CAN build the idealistic life of a successful female entrepreneur.

What I would have done differently:

BE MORE CLEAR AND CONCISE WITH TEACHING SPECIFIC TOPICS. I definitely plan to request that my speakers provide a very clear and concise topic to teach, along with step by step instructions on how to complete it. The topics needed step-by step “how to” so that the subscriber would get actual value out of the series and less broad explanation. I feel that my interviews were great at portraying the typical life of a successful entrepreneur, but that the specific topics we covered were not broken down and clearly addressed enough. Another way to prevent this next time would be to ask more specific questions regarding the topic and spend much less time talking about the background of the expert.
STOP TALKING SO MUCH. LET THE EXPERT DO ALL OF THE TALKING. I took too long in the introduction and spoke too much about why I was doing the summit, who the speaker was, why I chose them for a lengthy amount of time before I even allowed the speaker to speak.
BE FIRM ON THE EXPECTATIONS OF THE CONTRACT. I was not firm enough with the speakers addressing the promotional period because I was just so grateful that they were willing to participate. When we went into promo I only had 3 speakers out of 11 actually promote the series. NONE used their email list. None promoted the number of times they agreed to promote prior and during the summit and only promoted on social media, even after sending email reminder after email reminder to promote the series.
WRITE EPISODE PROTION AND SUMMARY IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INTERVIEW. Instead of having a fresh memory full of the interview experience, I had to go back and watch it all over again and try to remember the specifics of what I loved most about it and why I wanted to share it with the subscriber.
USE VIRTUAL SUMMIT SOFTWARE. This had to be my #1 time wasting issue that I faced. I tried building my entire summit from scratch using multiple companies, multiple platforms and multiple websites. I could have published my summit in under a month if I had the opportunity to use Dr. Mark T. Wades Virtual Summits software from the very beginning. It would have literally saved me a couple thousand dollars in virtual assistant fees, monthly maintenance fees, mistakes investing in technology that was not a good fit for my summit and the whole entire process of having to teach myself how to use every single platform that I had acquired to create my summit. It was absolutely crazy, the amount of time, stress and money that was literally thrown out the window! I am really looking forward to using the Virtual Summits software to continue to promote my series in Evergreen as well as monetize it…the simplicity to monetize it with the software…AHHH…it’s such a dream come true!

Yes, I have failed. Many, many times. Whether it was building my business, trying to be the best mother, wife or friend…I have failed at ALL of them one time or another. Painfully! But, in the years as a mom of three (current ages 6, 2 and 4) and business owner, I have learned that trying to go into anything alone with the hopes of becoming a successful leader does not get you far. You need support. The support of a community or “tribe” of individuals that inspire, create, have similar visions and an understanding of the commitment it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. Especially, an entrepreneur that has the additional responsibilities of her family and home life!

Hey there new friend,

So, here I am sitting in my computer chair at 6am this morning, feeling so ecstatic for this series to release.... imagining, dreaming....hoping (fingers crossed) that all of this hard work and time spent towards spreading this message changes lives. Or the life of at least one person. Just one. That's all that I hope for. OK let's be real here, my goal is to change as many lives as humanly possible with my message and my work :), .... but even if I just changed one life...one woman's circumstances....one mother's experience of the stress, the overwhelm, the anxiety and the daily routine that goes into motherhood...If I could flip that feeling, that view, and turn it into something positive, full of confidence, excitement, purpose and hope for the future to come...I will have felt that I have served my purpose as a coach and human being.

It's in the wee hours of the early morning and the late hours of night, when my head is bobbing itself back awake, my eyes are burning and the words I am typing start blending together and not making much sense, that my purpose becomes clear...my "why the heck am I doing this again?" gently burns a flickering reminder that this project has so much purpose and so much future impact, that if I were to keep it all inside and NOT take the risk of opening up the door for other's to see their true potential...I would consider myself to be TOTALLY SELFISH. Yep! you read that right: SELFISH.

  "Selfish? Why selfish?" you are thinking ...
  ...Okay, so let me break this down for you...

Imagine yourself looking from the outside-in of a pastry shop...or coffee shop...or, why not, BOTH...imagine yourself as a brand new mom, you've been up allllll night...your hair looks like shit...and hey - you probably smell like shit too - you wreak of B.O., you have "fuzzy" teeth and nasty morning breath because you haven't been able to brush, shower and let alone, stop the worry inside of your entire body that is keeping you awake at night in between all of the feedings, diaper changes and cries, but also, driving you back awake to remind you to keep your week old newborn baby alive......

   So here you are, on the outside looking into this shop full of these other moms who have their hair, makeup, gleaming white teeth and sleeping babies next to them all laughing, smiling, sipping on their hot coffee and eating their warm chocolate croissants while they carry on a fully, uninterrupted conversation. (Notice the key word here: uninterrupted.)

You see your reflection in the glass...you've got the same smeared makeup on from that newborn photo shoot you did two days ago and haven't had the time or energy to wash it off, flaky ass mascara on your cheeks and black under your eyes. You look down...you are wearing the same pair of un-matching pajamas that have small spots of drool, milk and throw up on them...and smell just about as good as they look ...(Can you tell that I've been through this three times...?)...and your first thought is embarrassment. "I can't go in there!", you think to yourself, "I look like shit!"

...THEN...then your next thought is, (as the smell of fresh coffee, sweet warm chocolate croissant and the sound of calm laughter and uninterrupted conversations fills your ears):

".....HOW THE HELL DO THEY LOOK SO GOOD? HOW ARE THEY DOING THIS? WHAT IS THEIR SECRET???"......

NOW STOP. Look to your right. I am there, holding the door open for you saying," What the heck are you doing out here looking in? Ya know, you can come in here and enjoy all the same blissful shit we are enjoying." I walk you to a seat right next to me, sit you down, pour you a cup of hot coffee, hand you a warm croissant and say, "Welcome to the tribe, girlfriend. We have all been standing outside of that window and somebody was unselfish enough to invite us inside. We are here to help clean you up, bring your confidence back and reassure you that you have a purpose, a light beaming larger than just your motherhood. You have an impact to make and we are willing and ready to spill all of our secrets to you....The only thing that we ask of you is: To not keep our secrets a secret. Share our knowledge, our experience, our love, our passion with all of the other mama's looking from the outside in and welcome them inside, just like we did for you. "

Because the secret, girlfriend, is that our success is attributed to a collection of ideas, knowledge, inspiration, support and even last minute favors we do for our tribe...like last minute babysitting, a few glasses of wine accompanied by tears, vented frustration and resolved with re-inspired hopes and visions for our big dreams. It's all a group effort, making your business a success. So, I want you to stop looking from the outside in, put your hair into a pony, put on your slippers, throw on some deodorant and just "show up" as often as you can. Because that fire you have burning inside, that light that keeps peeking up over the horizon that is telling you that you CAN be more, you CAN do more, you CAN impact more, and still be the best mom you ever imagined...IS POSSIBLE. It's just not possible ALONE.
