If you don’t have a massive list you are never going to make it. Might as well give up now.
That is how I felt for a long time and I spent a stupid amount of time, energy & MONEY trying to fulfill this untrue prophecy.
I made my first $136,000 in one week with a list of 900 subscribers. I make several million dollars a year right now (real time) with a list of 13,497 subscribers.
BUT the money is in the list right? We’ve all heard that before. Everybody says it. So that must mean the bigger my list the more money I’m going to make right?
I see it too often that people are spending more money than they should (or even have) to pay experts, or spend on ads, or to buy some fancy program or software to build a huge list. Stop it!!
You are missing the actual important part, and more often than not focusing solely on building a big list will actually set you up for failure. The most IMPORTANT part of list building is building a QUALITY list. A list of qualified, and engaged subscribers.
Of course I learned this lesson the hard way. One specific event, I spent $70,000 to build my list by about 15,000 leads in 10 days. Normally when I do a launch to a list of 3,000 leads I can expect to make around $250,000 - $350,000. When I launched to that list of $15,000 leads (expecting a 7 figure payout) I made $187,000. Minus expenses I walked away with around $50,000. WAY LESS than my normal small list.
This has held true for me over and over again. And not just me. I talk with my other 7 Figure entrepreneurs and they tell me the same thing. The money is not in the SIZE of the list. It is in the QUALITY of the list.
Yes, absolutely List Building is important and fundamental to building a business that makes money, but do it the right way.
The two most fundamental things to think about when building your list is:
1) Know Your End Goal – where are you taking these new fans? What are you eventually going to be teaching/selling/solving for them.
2) ALWAYS Be SPECIFIC – talk about the exact problem and solutions that your ideal avatar has.
Don’t focus on sexy, or fads. Focus on specifics, and on the end game. Build a quality list. Above all else the money is in a QUALITY list.

If you are focusing on lead magnets, eBooks, or webinars you are doing it wrong!
I can’t tell you how many times I showed up for my webinar to only be completely disappointed. There has to be a better way? I’ve spent tens of thousands on ads for webinars and lead magnets and every time I felt like I was just flushing money down the toilet. (It sucks!!)
Not anymore. Now when I list build I do it in a way that builds a quality list that translates into real income.
When I run a One-Day Summit I know only grow my list for a fraction of the ad spend, but the subscribers are qualified and engaged (and usually awesome) people that truly want to learn and do better. Every One-Day Summit for me translates into an average of $150,000. (Much better than my average $7,000 webinar)
It’s not easy to turn a blind eye to what everyone else is out there saying to do, but eventually I got tired of wasting money and not getting results. After years of trial and error it became pretty clear, the best solution to building a quality list is a One-Day Summit.
No not every One-Day Summit crushes out of the park. I still fail and have to re-do things. But far less frustration happens when I stay focused on the strategy that works.
